No idea, I don't check those gems anymore because they're always super weak. Maybe it isn't 'corrupted' per se, but the stats were hidden so you'd definitely want to use it?

Yup, I got one of those. Didn't convert it though, but I guess all the stats are secret before converting. Also, they are weak because one is required to make strong weapons by own. It would be kinda not-cool if everyone received five-six star ~300 weapons.

Yeah, but you can get far more powerful weapons by actually playing the game, let alone fusing them, so the Spot/StreetPass gems are stupid either way. Still waiting for the day I get a truly powerful set of claws, though. They're my favourite weapon, but the best weapon I've currently got that I actually like playing with is the Darkness Bow. The rest, even though higher in strength, is too slow to be useful on the ground.
