I was not aware that the 2i is compatible with the latest firmware. I thought they stopped at the chessmaster icon soft...?

Well, the latest firmware revision that actually blocked flashcards was 3 revisions ago (2.1.0-1, to be more precise). The other 2.1.0 revisions have been some bug fixes.
