When cleaning consoles, do your best to use microfibre cloths and a dry, soft toothbrush only. If you're applying water (for cleaning the casing only!), a few drops on the cloth are all you need, but to be honest, for example LCD cleaning fluid is far more desirable here - you really don't want to use water, be sure to keep that moisture away from the insides of the console (I personally use light spirit, normally used for sterilizing small cuts - I always have tons of that so hey!).
The rice trick does work - rice sucks up moisture really well. If no damage was done to the connectors yet, it just might work - if not, you'll have to clean the connectors themselves with strong spirit that won't leave any left-over residue - that means to perfume or whiskey!
