We have decided to release the first demo of our upcoming game, Take the eggs! Ornithorhynchus Anatinus GO GO GO! DS. For those that don't know, (and thats probably most of you) it's a port of "Motteke Tamago with Ganbare! Kamonohashi" originally by Naxat Soft, released on the Sega Saturn in 1998. This early version includes the in-game tutorial and the first world from the main game. That makes up to 3 stages in total. The cut scenes between worlds have yet to be added, and the "player wins" celebration animation isn't in there yet, but other than that everything should be working.
I've included a sample of the instruction manual I've been working on in the media dir, only 2 pages, Controls and Items. A complete full color manual will come with a later version. We will get a website up in the future as well. You'll know when its online as you will see a banner in the ds-scene network box. Take a look at the readme for much more information on the game.
Take the eggs! Ornithorhynchus Anatinus GO GO GO! DS v0.1a _________________________________________________________________________ 29th August 2008 retrohead
** Introduction **
Welcome to my second homebrew game for the DS, Take the eggs! Ornithorhynchus Anatinus GO GO GO! DS. This is a port of the Sega Saturn game by NAXAT SOFT called Motteke Tamago with Ganbare! Kamonohashi. The game can be seen as a cross between the classic bomberman games and Flicky.
** About Take the eggs! Ornithorhynchus Anatinus GO GO GO! DS **
In this version of the game, the levels have been ported relatively faithfully to the Nintendo DS. Some levels are notably different to the original ones due to the smaller screen of the Nintendo DS.
All modes from the original game will be reproduced and also a few extras will be in the final version. One of the features to be integrated will be a level editor to allow you to build your own levels and upload them to share with your friends!
WiFi and local area connection multiplayer modes will be added towards the end of the development cycle but this cannot be guaranteed at this moment in time.
** About Motteke Tamago! with Ganbare Kamonohashi! (Sega Saturn) **
Motteke Tamago with Ganbare! Kamonohashi is one of those little but enjoyable game. Your goal is to go after the eggs, collect them, let them hatch and bring back your kids to your house (and only yours if you want to get points). In the 1P mode, which is the adventure mode, you play against 3 other COM players. This mode is a little bit difficult (or more challenging) as you need to score more than the 3 other players together, being the one with the most points is not enough.
You go through 8 worlds (the countryside, the city, the desert, the forest, the ice world, the fire/volcano world, the sky and in space with aliens). You can reach all of them, even if you lose against the COM players, but you will not get the right end ;) After you completed this mode, another option (Omake) will appear on the title screen. By selecting this one, you can play at the original Motteke Tamago game from the PC-Engine. But don't forget to go to the option screen to save the game (as the game does not save automatically) else you will need to go all over the 1P mode to get the Omake option available again.
This game has also a multiplayer mode where you can challenge 1, 2 or 3 of your friends with the use of the multitap. This is where its great potential lies and you will probably go back to this game when your friends will visit you. Without this mode, the lifespan of this game is somewhat limited.
Motteke Tamago with Ganbare! Kamonohashi is not the best game around but not the worst. You must give it a try if you have the chance to find it.
1. Enter the "binary" folder 2. Patch the "*.nds" file with the DLDI driver for your media* 3. Copy the patched "*.nds" file to anywhere on your media card 4. Copy the "TakeTheEggs" folder to your media card (no more than 3 dirs deep) 5. Boot up your media card and play.
*note - Some devices now feature auto DLDI patching so will not need to be patched. Check out chishm's homepage for the DLDI patches: http://chishm.drunkencoders.com/DLDI/
** Controls **
Read the included manual files in the "media" folder for detailed controls or watchthe in-game tutorial.
** Game Modes **
2 modes are currently featured in this first version of the game. There is an in-game tutorial which will teach you basics of egg collecting and a short demo of the main game including 3 stages.
** Version History **
v0.1a * First public release * Includes in-game tutorial * Includes a 3 stage demo of the main game * Everything is working except for the Ghost power-up aka Death Messenger.
** To do list **
* Add 6 more characters * Stage Select Menu * Story Mode * Different stage results for story mode

It might be hard to believe, but after checking out the original on youtube, I'm looking forward to this port more than just about anything coming down the ds pike. Please don't dilly-dally, I can't wait to play the full version!
Edit: Played through available levels. Best. Homebrew. Ds. Game. Evar.

Well all the levels are complete but retrohead only wanted to release a sample of the game for now. There is still a lot of other stuff needs working on before we are happy to release the full game.
Glad you enjoyed it though

Quality game, looking forward to the full thing and multiplayer should be great fun, I kick duck ass too easily. I had the poison effect still on from the last match when I started a new match, but apart from that it's all solid. If you ask me, those white ducks have some kind of "master race" thing going on but the platypus minority wins through! Classic tale of the struggle against oppression and racial differences. Yes, now I see the deeper political meanings behind it all.

Thanks for that mate, I havn't come across that yet so I will add a fix for that. It will probably happen with invincible aswell thinking about it.
As for the minority thing, yeah the story mode is played against 3 of the same character. Their scores will be combined in the final version so you have to beat all them together. In multiplayer mode, each player is a different character which is why you see the results screen as it is.
AI sucks aswell at the moment but what's there seemed playable of sorts so I just left it as it was for this release.

Wonderful game. If multiplayer can one day be realised, I'll jump for joy. I'm sort of wondering if I can get the platypus off the bottom screen in the scoring menu by scoring way too much points. :p
