Nintendo decided to remove the internet function of Swapnote/Nintendo Letter Box because people were sending pics of their parts. Greeaaattt..

You can still send notes to friends using StreetPass.

    Thank you for your support.

Nintendo has learned that some consumers, including minors, have been exchanging their friend codes on Internet bulletin boards and then using Swapnote (known as Nintendo Letter Box in other regions) to exchange offensive material. Nintendo has been investigating ways of preventing this and determined it is best to stop the SpotPass feature of Swapnote because it allows direct exchange of photos and was actively misused.

Nintendo always wants to provide a positive experience for all consumers and limit the risk of any inappropriate activity or misuse of a service. We feel it is important on this occasion to take this action.

We are very sorry for any inconvenience to the many consumers who have been using this service responsibly; however this decision was made considering the point that many minors also use this feature of Swapnote. Thank you for your understanding.

Nintendo will continue to work to ensure more consumers are aware of our Parental Control features, which allow parents to manage their children's experience on our systems. For more information, please click here.

Service stop date: Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, 7 p.m. PT
Service being stopped: Nintendo 3DS software Swapnote - Sending and receiving notes using SpotPass
Affected regions: All regions where the service was offered
Special Notes services are also stopped

And yet again another Nintendo console suffers from lack of communication because some idiots couldn't keep they pants shut.
I wonder when the Video talk feature of Wii U is getting removed.

No but seriously, Nintendo consoles are heavily suffering in terms of features because of this kids focus.
I remember when I picked up my Pokemon X at release date I saw all those little kids standing at the Apple products and probably playing angry birds while all the teenagers (12+) were standing at the Games section and were checking out the 2/3DS/Vita. I don't see the reason why to focus on this "More in smartphones interested" minority and remove cool features because of parents being incapable of watching over them.

I really liked this App and I'm not going to delete is since it has 2 Years full of memories about my handheld.
Let's see if Mii verse is going to have some sort of communication (if it ever comes out on 3DS)

So, the only thing about that app that anyone used, is now removed? Wonderful!

Also, Pokémon Black/White have a video chat feature for DSi/3DS owners...

I'm not into Voice chat with crappy quality. In general I don't like voice chatting with strangers. Guess what device in my house isn't used at all. My Phone (well maybe for music but thats not the point).
I feel more comfortable with a software that allows me to type messages. No accents to worry about or mispronunciations. The only thing to worry about are typos or, in case of Letter box, bad handwriting.
Also not everyone owns Pokemon/Animal Crossing and/or uses it purely for chatting purposes. Not to mention, not everybody has these games.
Nintendo Letter Box was a Freeware software that everybody had access to and allowed writing, drawing, sending pix and sending small sound files. For me it was a must have software on a 3DS and it was even pre-installed on newer 3DS Models.
I wonder how confused new customers will be when they try to use it.
