I have a, as it reads on the cart, "WiFi R4i V4.4 3DS". I see that the closest firmware update to be found on this site is for R4i Gold 3DS which I believe is a different cart than this one. This particular cart has been discontinued by the manufacturer and though the firmware updates they release for newer carts are compatible, they are still buggy in certain areas. Is it possible I can use firmware from another flashcart and have it be fully compatible? Or are other flashcarts buggy imperfect as well?

Your best bet is to get firmware updates from the website printed on the card's packaging, usually all the various R4 clones use cracked R4i Gold software/firmware updates though some never bother to update their card at all.
But if they dropped support entirely there's not much you can do. You can certainly try to update the firmware but you risk bricking your flash cart.
Currently the R4i Gold 3DS is the best R4 clone out there that gets regular compatibility updates. I've never had an issue with mine except for incorrectly formatting my micro SD card, but that was my fault.

You can not use other card's firmware to used on your card, you should use your card's official website firmware to play games on your card, if that your can card can not work normally. if there is some problem about your card, you can buy a new r4i gold rts card, the r4i gold rts card is the best card now.
