I tried out the first one but the lack of furigana made me stop. It was still a better experience than Monster Hunter - I hate Monster Hunter. I seriously tried - twice - to get into the game (Monster Hunter 2nd whachamacallit for PSP) but no dice. Just not my cup of tea.
