MJaoune Jordan

Hi,

So I have finished high school and I am willing to attend a university and go for my dream study which is Computer Engineering, however, here in Jordan, its really really hard for a Computer Engineer to find a job or make living, neither anyone who has a degree with anything related to computers, since as you know, Jordan is still a developing country and doesn't currently require computer experts.

I have always wished to study Computer Engineering in Europe (Especially Germany), I even tried contacting many universities in UK and Germany. The problem is that, I can't afford to study in Europe, so I need somehow a full or semi-full scholarship, but none of the universities I contacted offered scholarships to International Students.

I asked them if they can give me a scholarship for my knowledge in computers. I don't like blowing my own trumpet, but actually I have spent most of my life on my computer and have learned many things in different fields (Such as programming (C, C++, assembly), web development (PHP, HTML, Javascript, SQL), system administrating with different operating systems, networking, security, database management etc...), I even have a few projects I worked on, but when I send them a formal letter and tell them what I know in relation to computers, they don't seem to be interested or maybe they just don't bother themselves to take a look at the projects, maybe they even don't have much knowledge in computers so I ask them if they can send my projects to a Computer Engineer professor in their university so he can estimate my knowledge but they don't seem to bother sending them.

I am feeling really hopeless as I am finding my future a blocked path. Can anyone tell me how can I study in a good university in Europe with affordable fees?

My homepage: http://mjaoune.users.sourceforge.net/
My projects: http://mjaoune.users.sourceforge.net/projects.html

Best regards

I study at UGent in Belgium. I don't know about your particular situation, but study fees in Belgium are extremely low, so you should have a look if it's possible for you to study in Belgium. Of course, you'll have to provide for your own place to stay (which isn't that expensive but is still a cost to take into account), as the universities only provide a limited amount of places for international students, and that's only for Erasmus students. Bachelor courses are generally in Dutch, so you will need to ask with the professors if there is a possibility to use English coursebooks and whatnot and take exams in English, or you could learn Dutch (which isn't a particularly difficult language, then again I say that as a native speaker).

I had a quick look and it looks like this might be a useful link to look for information first: http://www.ugent.be/en/education/degree/practical/studentadmin/tuition

Maybe other Belgian universities offer different opportunities, but I don't know about that so you'll have to look into that yourself.

If you want to study in Germany, take a look and see if you can find some kind of scholarship from the DAAD https://www.daad.de/deutschland/stipendium/datenbank/en/21148-scholarship-database/

Anyway, I can assure you that at least the semester fees in Braunschweig are quite low (~€300 per semester) and you can probably find some WG room to stay for around 240€ a month.
It is not so expensive, and also as a student you could work part time in Germany (probably depends on your visa), that may also help.
