Technically it's for young children who could potentially harm their eyes with the 3D or break the hinge... practically it's a budget model, hence the Mono speaker.

It looks kinda cool though...

Still not a good reason to release a whole new model that looks awful in my opinion.

I realize that which is why I said it's practically just a budget model. They're trying to get into the grace of tablet-lovers while not being a tablet at all as well as appeasing all the parents concerned about the 3D aspect and too technologically-illiterate to disable it as well as those who are worried that the original is too frail for their kids.
