It's a Dark Themed Action RPG. It's one of the hardest games of all time.

I hear that phrase and the phrase 'artificial difficulty' a lot on /v/. What does it mean?

Fake Difficulty

Basically a game being difficult because of bad design, or forced difficulty.
Eg. Insane time limits, bad controls, bad level design leading to hidden pits or awful camera angles that don't let you see your way, bad physics, etc.

Dark Souls has no artificial difficulty imho. The game is just hard.

I believe it has some semblance of fake difficulty; the enemies take way too much damage and a lot of the game is simply remembering where the traps are or what to avoid. The back tracking when you die also borderlines Fake Longevity for me. With that said, I understand why people like it. /v/ just likes to get their panties in a twist.

Demon Souls had wonky controls and too many cliffs.
