i am now the proud owner of a nearly new DS lite but i need your recommendations on how to get the best out of my ds

realy i know next to nothing about how to use a ds beyond insert game cart.

how can i use my DS as a mp3/video/watever player.
are ther any tools or apps i can use on a DS ?
what kind of expansion do i need to get , i was told stranded SD mem card "same as digital cameras" will do.
do i have to flash my DS to do this ?  something i RELAY don't want to mess with.

as for running  roms
what is the best ,easiest to use , problem free cart available.

my leanings are with the Acekard2 but i will listen  to your wisdom and experience.

can i run GBA roms from a slot one device ? again i have a DS lite , i would like to avoid having to buy a second cart .

as for my intentions , it more of try before you buy , i rather give a game a try before i plop down my hard earned cash , i note i rather buy a game than have an other corrupted save of frozen game disaster.

thank you for your time , your advice will decide my next purchases.

i use a dstt card for my ds lite and besides waiting for new updates to come out for it i have had no problems ive herd good things about the cyclone card but havent tried it myself as far as playing gba games i have a slot 2 device it was pretty cheap under $10 if i remember corretly you can usally get a package deal that includes the card, slot 2, and a micro sd card for a pretty good price once you have the card you can then get a program called moonshell that you can play mp3s/movies ect. i tried moonshell when i got mine (about a couple of years ago) but it was kind of a hassle because you got to convert your movies to a certin format and the ds screen is kinda small to enjoy movies on i havent tried any new versons of moonshell because i got other things to play movies and listen to mp3s with i hope this helps you out a little bit because i really enjoy my ds its a fun little system and i dont regret getting it

i will keep on doing research , so far the cyclone is the superior and COSTLIER cart , i use to have a flashrom pack for my gba , 256m don't remember the company ,the dang think kept locking up , i finally destroyed it in frustration after screwing up ALL my save ,2 years of gaming down the tube.

i haven't been able to find a store , online or other wise that hold GBA flash carts

Take my advice, if your looking for an easy to use flash cart for ds-lite, use the R4. It has high compatibility rates, always runs smooth, allows me to get better lighting out of my original ds backlight, and comes with a peice of software called moonshell which will play special video files (use avi or mp4 and convert to etc) and mp3/4.

Go for it, it's the best!  :yaylite:

the r4 was in my top 3 choice but the bad rap about the poor usb reader put me off.

do you have to reboot the DS each time you vue a media file ?

again i am depending on all of you to make an informed desition on what cart to invest in.

Do not take his advice. Even though the R4 is the most common flash-cart it´s kind of outdated and it´s users are usually at the end of the line when it comes to updates. Typically recommended carts are the CycloDS and AceCard stuff, they seem very sturdy built and reliable, great support too. I´m on m3real for my part, and that one is rather flimsy and the eject of the microSD broke down on me about a year after purchase, so I had to open it up and fix it, allthough support with new firmwares and compability is really good and it´s quite cheap.
And another word in advice: go for a GBA-Extension! That enables you to run GBA-games in the DS´s original GBA-mode, even though there might be a GBA-emulator out there (which I don´t know and don´t care), it´s much more conveniant. These slot2-expansions should nowadays be some 3in1-solution containing a rumble, GBA-functionality and extra memory for programs like the Opera-Browser or homebrew ports like Quake2.

You should be able to find a decent bundle containing slot1-cart, 3in1 slot-2 expansion and microSD somewhere on the net. Enjoy!!!
