I really enjoyed the game, but... 38/40 is a bit much. I liked the sounds, the music, the gameplay, but only while it lasted. Actually, I didn't even finish it yet. I'd reserve high scores like this for games with an everlasting appeal, games you come back to even when you finished them, like, a gajizzilion of times.
I'd say that a 7-8/10 (translates to about 30-32/40) is a score I'd be more inclined to give it.
I loved the innovative approach towards graphics and an original battle system, but the game also left that weird feeling of "I want s'more of that" which it never seemed to fulfil. It did something I don't particularily like - it pushed you into your chair with the awesome, but failed to hit the nail so you keep "pushed in", and for that the score is lowered.
That doesn't mean that the game is bad - it's by far one of the best DS games and definatelly a must-play. You can't forget that it requires an "aquired taste" though.
