the homepage for the new Band Bros sequel has been up for a few days now so i thought i would mention some of the new features. 31 songs are included in the game and over 100 will be available for download on Nintendo Wi-Fi connection, see the list below. In addition to the DLC you will also be able to create your own songs much like you could in the first game with a traditional composer. Alternatively you sing or hum into the DS mic and the software automatically translates the pitch of your voice into notes on the composer. Regardless of knowledge or experience anyone can feel free to make music. Once you have created a master piece you can upload it over WFC for others to download, great idea. One of the new features is the Speaker Channel, this can be downloaded from the Wii Shop, (im guessing for free?) What this does is allow you to use your TV or speaker setup for the sound. Any one of up to eight people can play in concert together on their DS with everyones instruments being transfered to the Wii over wireless, pretty cool eh. At the end of the concert the results are displayed on the TV. Band Brothers DX hits stores on the 26 of June, not long to wait now :playlite:

Even though theres a huge amount of songs on the cart and downloads, I somehow feel the line-up quite simply... crap. Too much of the same artist, epecially with the classical pieces. The old game had not many songs but they were a good balance. Suppose someone could make a hack just like with the 1st game where you could upload your own midis from the computer, had a blast playing with old school Final fantasy battle themes.

Well if you're good enough with the composer then you can recreate any song you want. I done a few video game tracks myself on the first band bros. I'm sure someone will make a midi hack for this one as well though.

If you think about it they could potentially add more Download songs, or change the list completely in the future . I think the ability to upload your own compositions is what will really make this game shine. People will almost definitely be recreating a lot of jpop and video game tracks, so if theres a song you want chances are someone has already made it and uploaded it.

In watching the demonstration video, I couldn't help but notice the guy said "Wii Shopping Channel" which has me a little worried... Do you think it'll cost money to get additional songs? Furthermore, do you think Americans will be able to download the songs?

Things could be looking grim.

No shouldn't cost anything for the extra songs as they are all downloaded from the DS as far as i know.
And if it did have content you had to pay for then it should have the pay to play wifi logo on the box but it doesn't, it just has the standard blue logo.

I tried to translate part 3 of the interview where they talk about the wii side of it and this is what google came up with, which didn't make a lot of sense but thats what you get from google translate.

Iwata
    And (laughs).
"Speaker channels" to obtain and we have not tried to do.

Kitamura
The DX Vanbrugh, and to purchase,
Package in a password will be printed in the paper.
The number of "Wii Shopping Channel" and you should be able,
Vanbrugh, the DX-only "channel speaker" will be able to download

My friend in Japan wasn't around on irc today but when he comes online i will ask if he can fully translate the interview for me.

EDIT: he came online.

Code
<+WarBird> If you buy Band Bros DX, there will be a password printed on a paper inside the packaging.
<@Triforce> and you need that password to leech the channel from the shop?
<+WarBird> If you enter that number in the Wii shopping channel
<+WarBird> you will get the Band Bros DX channel
<+WarBird> speaker channel
<@Triforce> thanks
<@Triforce> so others will have to rely on someone dumping it
<+WarBird> or directly, "you will be able to download the Speaker channel"
<@Triforce> ?
<@Triforce> without having a password
<+WarBird> no no
<@Triforce> kk
<+WarBird> <WarBird> you will get the Band Bros DX channel <- this
<+WarBird> you wont "get the channel", you will be able to download it
<+WarBird> if you translate what he says directly :)
<+WarBird> was what i meant
<+WarBird> sorry :)
<@Triforce> im still confused, you wont get the channel without password but can still download it?
<+WarBird> lol
<+WarBird> ok, once more
<@Triforce> oh sorry
<+WarBird> You enter the password in the shopping channel, then you will be able to download the speaker channel
<@Triforce> i got you
<+WarBird> hehe
<@Triforce> http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ds/axbj/play/speakerchannel.html
<@Triforce> thats only a small bit of text
<@Triforce> could you translate that as well WarBird
<+WarBird> if you are posting this as news, gimme creds for translation help :)
<@Triforce> i already have posted it
<@Triforce> but i will make a comment with the password thing
<+WarBird> ah, now I get what the speaker channel is
<+WarBird> well, it basically says the same thing first
<+WarBird> You buy the game, and you will be able to download the speaker channel on your wii
<+WarBird> 1 download per game
<+WarBird> Using the wireless, you will be able to enjoy sessions with high quality sound on your television
<+WarBird> Up to 8 players using just 1 DS cart
<+WarBird> Induvidual scores will be displayed after the session ends

So there you have it, if you buy the game you can use the password inside the packaging to download the channel.

Since I have nothing better to do than translate stuff for Triforce, I translated the rest too....

Quote
Iwata: Compared to the previous version, there are some new approaches, right?

Kitamura: Such as the "Radio" mode. You can use your Nintendo DS as a radio, listening to the build in songs that DJ Barbara plays. Whats more, by using a WiFi connection, without doing anything, you can listen to songs stored on Nintendos servers.

Iwata: That's no doubt "radio".

Kitamura: And since its Radio, you can listen as much as you want for free. A streaming service called JASRAC is taking care of it, and as long as its a song on Nintendos servers, you can listen to any song.

Iwata: And if its a song you like, you can download it...?

Kitamura: The sing title is displayed on the DS screen, so thats convenient if you want to download it. And just listening and discovering new songs is also cool.
Furthermore, using televison speakers when you play is also a new feature. Originally, I was thinking it would be fun to play with high volume, so I consulted with Iwate...

Iwata: He (I?) said "If we connected to a Wii, we should be able to make a system for playing using the TV".

Kitamura: Yes. We made a Wii channel called "Speaker Channel", and the power is really different from the DS speakers. The sound has been upgraded, and the feedback is like a real instrument. So at the end of the development, I was playing almost every day.

Iwata: Eh? You were only playing this time too?

Kitamura: No, I was working on "testing the speaker channel". On paper, that is (laughs)

Iwata: Again... (laughs)
The way to get the "Speaker Channel" is a totally new approach too.

Kitamura: Yes. When you buy "Band Bros DX", there will be a paper with a password inside the box. When you enter this password in the Wii Shopping Channel, you will be able to download the special "Speaker Channel" for "Band Bros DX".

Iwate: I'm changing the subject a bit, but the development of "Band Bros DX" took quite some time.

Kitamura: As the project neared completion, many of the "Band Bros DX" staff moved on to other projects.

Iwate: But the motivation to continue development didnt drop. Why was that?

Kitamura: To me, it was the carrot.

Iware: Carrot?

Kitamura: When this job is completed, I can finally play "Band Bros DX". That kind of carrot was always in front of my eyes.

Everyone: (Laughs)

Kitamura: Because of that carrot, I gave it my best on other work too. I really gave it my all.

Kitahara: Thats certainly a carrot. "Band Bros DX" was, even from a developent point of view, very fun. It's my favorite software. So even when all the members were scattered, doing other jobs, we were  sending "Band Bros mail".

Iwate: From the beginning, it was said that this team really got along well, but maybe one could also say you bonded through playing sessions?

Kitamura: Thats probably true.

Iwate: Last question. How would you like different customers to play the game?

Kitamura: There isnt a particular way I wan't a certain type of customer to play. That is why there are so many play modes. For those who like karaoke, there is singing mode, and for those who like to make songs, theres the song-making mode. In that way, I hope that people of different tastes will gather around "Band Bros DX".

Iwate: I don't think there is many who don't like music. Should it be singing, making music, playing music or just appreciate the art of music. So as long as you like music, there is many ways to use this, right?
How about you, Kitahara?

Kitahara: I'm with Kitamura. Sex or age doesn't matter, I wan't every type of person to enjoy the game. And if one owns a Wii, and can connect to the internet, I also want people to try the "Speaker Channel". As long as you have one copy of the software, you can play with your family or friends, so please try it.

Iwate: You can do Family Band Bros.
And lastly, Mr. Kuma.

Kuma: I'm personally in the in-house band, and play the tronbone. So anyone who loves games, buy "Band Bros DX", experience the thrill and fun of playing, and I would also like them to try their hands on a real instrument. And also the other way around, people who already play an instrument, pick up "Band Bros DX" and experience the fun of playing games.

Iwate: Everyone, thank you for your time.

Warbird, you're the best.

I might end up writing an article for the site I work for (Gamernode.com) and, with your permission, I'd like to use your translation. You'll obviously be credited.

Now, I only have two concerns:
First concern (which would actually be a great thing) is that apparently you can store up to 100 downloaded songs on your card. The save file for any DS game is like 256kb, I believe, and the average song is about 24kb. This means that, unless they're doing some incredible compressing, the card MIGHT have different hardware inside to support larger saves. This means anyone trying to emulate the game won't be able to. (Which would be awesome.)

Second concern: I'm not sure if Americans will be able to download the Speaker Channel, considering the shopping channel in Japan is greatly different than the one in the States. I'm hoping we'll still be able to, but if not, that'd be a shame. I don't think we'll have any problems downloading songs from their Japanese servers, though.

Japanese copies of picross worked fine to download extra puzzles and play online, so i would hope this is the same. As for the channel, im sure it will be 'available' just as all the other VC and WW content is. I would imagine this is the only way anyone outside of japan could get it really.

Cant wait for this, the original was one of the first reasons i wanted a ds.

btw, what were the hacks for the first one? I know there was a semi translated version but never heard of being able to add midi songs.
