yup, but i dont get it since you cant use those FW files, or can you?

No, you can't use them, but I guess it's possible to disassemble / reverse engineer them, which is a good thing if it's put to good use, e.g. making custom firmwares or specific applications utilizing the hardware.

Any sort of custom firmware for the DS-X would probably be the best thing to have happened to the cart in its lifetime. "Official" firmware has been a joke.

If this release is akin to releasing source code, then I'm all for it.

Unless this can be booted from the normal DS-X firmware, you would have to host the file by http and modify the updater.
