All-new Pokémon games coming up end of this year! Are you excited? I sure am! Nothing better than some good old Pokeymans! Maybe the abbreviation for these games is slightly unfortunate, though.

According to the official website, you can transfer your Pokémon from XYORAS to Sun & Moon through Pokémon Bank, but even more, you can transfer Pokémon you caught in the Virtual Console versions of Red, Blue and Yellow (which you can apparently buy five times each, once for every language the Pokémon games are translated to in Europe). I wonder if you'll be able to get your RBY's Missingno onto Pokémon Sun & Moon. Also interesting to see that China is now getting the games in Chinese as well.

I really hope that 'Sun' and 'Moon' are an indication that these games are going to reincorporate the visible day/night mechanic. It was strange going from Black and White to X and Y and not having the night fall in-game anymore.

They brought us another ugly water pokemon, that's three in a row.

Grass = Best.

Grass = Best.

Overall, definitely, but Litten is clearly the superior starter this gen. Now hopefully it won't evolve into a feline Emboar.

Wait wait wait, are you calling Froakie ugly?

Froakie is definitely an uggo. But it's the least ugly of its evolution line.

The water starter has the best final evolution of the three I think. I like the grass one, but most pokemon with skin/fur-clothes bug me. So fire-cat's belt is bleh. I heard you can import Ash-Greninja into the game if you played the demo, but as Greninja is ugly (with his tongue scarf) and the Ash variant even more so, I don't think I'll be doing that.

Overall, I think the game has some issues. Visually, I hate the way the protagonist walks - like he's special, he swings his arms too much which made me choose to run everywhere. And then there's the fact that 95% of time he has this dopey expression on his face.

Spoiler

This wouldn't be an issue if the other characters didn't have varied expressions. He comes across like a doll.

The game is also pretty easy, most trainers have one pokemon. I mean, it is annoying catching a breeder with six pokemon or a fisherman with six magikarp, but this is too far in the other direction. Also, I couldn't find any pants/trousers to buy, I know it's Hawaii but I'm sure some people wear pants/trousers there.

On the plus side traveling is independent of your pokemon choices. So you no longer have to deal with hm slaves or try to implement them into your team; don't wanna teach gyarados surf? Don't have to! Though I would've let you use your own pokemon if you had them. I like most of the new pokemon and I like the region and the idea it - I'll actually check in with the series once Ash gets there. I also like most of the npc's as well, even your rival who is pure diabetes.

If the idea is they're trying to pull in the Yo-Kai Watch people, then it'll probably work.

I absolutely agree, and the Poké Ride music is just too goofy. At least it doesn't trigger in certain areas and the normal music keeps playing. I just wonder how long this gen is going to be. The first event legendary is already out, so there's only one unavailable Pokémon anymore which will probably be released end of next year, unless they're going to wait a year for that Pikachu with a hat as well. Kalos had three event legendaries and that didn't even get a third game, sequel, or anything.

Speaking of Kalos, the way Zygarde was added into the game was stupid. "Here's a box, collect 100 cells, then report back and you get Zygarde, which is the protector of Kalos and it's here in Alola spread all over the place because I don't know." A little bit more wouldn't have hurt, and a map/counter to tell you where you're missing some cells could have been useful.

From good designs to an interesting region (the entirety of Poni Island is just great) to NPCs who do more than just sit in their gym there's a lot to like, but some things look like they were cut short for no reason and the framerate on the old 3DS, especially in Festival Plaza, is incredibly bad. Black and White remain king, but Sun and Moon are close.
