I can see that the 3DS receives certain "hardcore" titles, but it's still lack-luster in comparison with the Vita and this gap will only become more apparent in the following years - the initial line-up for the DS was quite amazing as well, don't you remember?
Not sure if sarcasm, so here's the EU PS Vita launch lineup: Uncharted: Golden Abyss WipEout 2048 Reality Fighters Little Deviants ModNation Racers: Road Trip Everybody’s Golf Escape Plan Unit 13 Hustle Kings MotorStorm RC Top Darts
The only arguably 'hardcore' games in that are Uncharted and Unit 13, the rest is essentially kids and racing games.
Now compare it to the EU 3DS launch lineup: PilotWings Resort (Nintendo) Nintendogs + cats Golden Retriever & New Friends (Nintendo) Nintendogs + cats French Bulldog & New Friends (Nintendo) Nintendogs + cats Toy Poodle & New Friends (Nintendo) Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition (Capcom/Nintendo) De Sims 3 (Electronic Arts) PES 2011 3D (Konami) LEGO Star Wars III: The Clone Wars (Activision) Ridge Racer 3D (Namco Bandai) Super Monkey Ball 3D (Sega) Samurai Warriors: Chronicles (Tecmo Koei) Asphalt 3D (Ubisoft) Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Shadow Wars (Ubisoft) Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell 3D (Ubisoft) Rayman 3D (Ubisoft) Steel Diver (Nintendo)
Street Fighter and both Tom Clancy's are arguably 'hardcore' games. Same 'hardcore' to 'normal' ratio as the Vita. We'll see which 'hardcore' games the Vita will receive in the following year.
Not once did I say "Launch titles", check the upcomming titles. Not only that, excuse me, but... the 3DS launch line-up was poo. 4 versions of Nintendogs are essentially the same game, Street Fighter, Splinter Cell and Rayman 3D are ports. The rest was... sort of "poo", except Shadow Wars.

My bad, I thought that was what you meant with 'initial lineup'.
I never said the 3DS's launch was great, only that it was of about the same 'quality' as the Vita's. I'd argue there's more fun to be had in Nintendogs+cats (though the cats react quite... odd to the places you stroke them from what I've seen in the demo) than there is in Reality Fighters.

The soul of a Man is not complete before two Reality Fighters choose to duke it out and stand strong at the peak of Theirgirldfiend'sboobies Mountains.

In my street, right in front of my door, there've been roadworks for two years. They were to renew the sewage pipes for a couple 100m of road. Don't ask me why it took so long. I think some money was moved under the table to keep it going as long as possible, cause otherwise it'd be finished in 2 months, max. and we wouldn't get a note saying they're going to take off the asphalt and we shouldn't park our cars there three times over the course of the works -- while there wasn't any asphalt, just a bumpy pool of mud, and it was barely possible to get through it by bike, let alone by car.
That misery ended about 10 months ago. They did leave a nice little surprise with the parking lot. Before the works started, it was a decent parking lot with place for about 10 - 12 cars. They broke it with all their machines until it was a pile of bumpy mud, and fixed it a bit later. They turned it into a parking lot where you can park 4 VW Golf-sized cars in parallel. Anything bigger than a VW Golf and you'd be in trouble. THANKS ALOT, LEUVEN AND DECKX!
Since then, they've opened up parts of the road about 5 times to work on pipes. Makes one wonder what the hell they did during those 2 years, that it's still not done properly and they still need to reopen the thing 5 times in 10 months!
This week was that 5th time. They broke up the sidewalk and part of the road a week ago and left it like that without doing anything to it. Then last night I got home late from work, tired (as I still haven't been able to catch up on the sleep I've been lacking due to working parttime on two projects that require my attention fulltime) and with a splitting headache (cause they've never heard of ventilation at the office).
It was a bit past 19:00 when I arrived home and when I wanted to turn to get onto the parking lot, I couldn't. It was blocked by a big truck with flashing foglights and some boozing roadworkers next to it. I park my car further down the road, on the only parking space left -- which is right in front of a building that's close to collapsing. I walk home, enter it, finally sit down and... DOOFDOOFDOOFDOOFDOOF! Those goddamn roadworkers started working on that hole they left unattended for an entire week, sometime past 19:00! They used pleeeeenty of shaking machinery that sounded as if there was a helicopter right outside my window. They kept their bullcrap up til about 21:00 (when I was about to collect all empty cans and plastic bottles I could find to throw them at those assholes from my window).
I'm tired as shit today as a result. Can't get some rest at work, can't get some rest at home. THANK YOU, LEUVEN, FOR CARING SO DAMN MUCH ABOUT YOUR CITIZENS!
And in the meantime, the ruling party here regularly puts pamflets in my mailbox titled: "Het is goed leven in Leuven" ("It is good living in Leuven"). Bunch of asshats! Can't wait til I'm out of this goddamn hellhole

I'm at the customer today, again with that colleague (who's now not scratching between his legs as much anymore, doesn't stink of soap from 20m distance anymore and has limited the amount of video's he watches with volume on high, so it's better now). The past few days, I've noticed that, when people come in, they say: "Hey Raf!" (for those who don't know, Raf's my name). They never actually say hi to my colleague, only -- and as explicitely as mentioning my name -- to me
Oh and now you guys know my name, my age (I think), the city I live in, the kind of work I do and where I work. Oh no, social engineering hacking security problem! Retro should implement fixes to this software to block these kinds of hacking attempts
I think we got the DS-Scene meme some were asking about last week or so
