I haven't really liked turn-based rpg's in the past... they just seemed too dumb and repetitive to me.

I Admit pokemon doesn't get really old... but i am kinda done with the 4th gen now.

Other than pokemon though, i really never played that many good turn-based RPG's.... except for recently, i got Suikuden Tieresis.

Regardless of any official reviews and ratings, fans have rated the game at the very least a 9.2 and i have to give it a full 10/10

Definitely the best Nintendo DS game i have ever played... i played it for 16 hours straight and continually went threw the story, that goes to show how long the game is. (i didn't train any extra besides from storyline fights... so overall i didn't get that many more unlockable charectors, and it was tough beating the one true king at the end of the game)

Anyway, that game re-ignited my passion for turn-based strategy games... but so far i haven't been able to find any that have a perfect cross between pokemon-styled random battles, Final fantasy Travel Style, and Playstation Classic Game Graphics like Suikuden Tierkresis.... so thats why im asking.

Anyone know any good Turn-based RPG's that are from 2008-2009... if you could suggest some to me that would be very helpful!

:D

(PS: If you havent played suikuden tierkresis, I Recomend it now, the gameplays around 9.5/10, while the story is what really pulls you in... it just keeps you wanting more until you are done with the game.. then you cant wait until the next one!, it has full anime-like cutscenes and regular ones as well... and over 100 allies you can get throwout the game.)

I'm going to HAVE to recommend Final Fantasy IV. Its the best graphics on the DS, and its turnbased combat. The cutscenes are amazing.
However it's pretty hard and a little on the short side. I loved it, but i am ashamed to say i cheated on it.
I would recommend looking at some of the cutscenes. Here is the first one. Its amazing the cutscenes arent easy to find

Anyway hope that helps.

#1 Don't throw "10/10" So casually... 10/10 signifies perfection. Meaning that there could be nothing extra put into a game to improve it. Suikoden DS has lots of room for improvement. If a majority of people are giving it a 9, then You should be happy that a great hand held game got a great score...

#2 Final Fantasy 4 doesn't quite count as "Turn Based" when there is an Active Time Battle gauge involved.

#3 In Language isn't a barrier, I say check out Kimi no Yuusha. Prefer English? Check out Rhapsody: A Musical Adventure.  The keyword of this topic is "Turn Based" and the classic turn based genre is very dated, so you wont find many titles on DS.

It has 108 playable characters... And team attacks depend on the present characters...

So theres "some" depth to it...

But the battle system isn't "generic" as it is "out-dated"

agreed.

Riz Zoawd seemed to have some surprising depth with it's turn-based combat as I got into it, but i couldn't bring myself to enjoy not even getting to see my awesome characters do awesome attacks, despite how great all the other graphics were.
Plus items were a little difficult with me not knowing a lick of japanese. XD

1. I found nothing to improve on the game within reasonable range... maybe more charechtor customization, but the feeling of watching the 'show' was the reason i loved the game... it wasnt one of those games i'd play more than once.

2.

3. i checked both out... they didnt draw me in like Suikoden did, but they were both good for a short-term play.

I'm not so sure on the definition on Turn-based :S I would think that the Dragon Quest main series games on the ds(i.e IV and V) are turn-based, but since you have the speed attribute on characters I guess you couldn't really call it turnbased since it how fast you get to act depends on your speed. If I've got it wrong then most J/RPG's aren't turn-based, because all of them have the speed/agility attribute on characters :S

Anyway, as stated above, the Dragon Quest games are really good in my opinion, but they are traditional RPGs. That means that it might seem too outdated for you. The stories are good, and they are somewhat independent of eachother. I would in any case recommend DQ IV first. The graphics are cool, but if you have caught the anti-2D sprites illness that seems to have become a pandemic, then there's a possibility that you should stay away from them :P At least give them a try. They have a little bit of puzzle solving in them.

So since I'm not sure which games are turn-based and not I'll just give you a short list:
Contact (uses touchscreen)
Final Fantasy III (traditional)
Chrono Trigger (ATB-ish system)
Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker (I haven't really played it)
Etrian Odyssey 2 (there's no story relating to the first one I would think. !Addictive and timeconsuming!)
Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time Recommended for ALL new beginners
I've heared some rumors about a game called Zubo. It's supposed to be a bit childish, but most JRPGs have characters that look like children anyway :P Note that Zubo isn't a JRPG

Hi

Am an RPG addict too..the game you must definitely checkout is "Ninja Gaiden-Dragon Sword"(not exactly rpg but close,it's an adventure game)the graphic and game play is amazing (am surprise why I have not seen anyone mentioning this game before when the graphic n game play are so perfect) ..am looking for game play just like this in NDS but so far have not been able to find one  .. yes i also like Suikoden Tierkries (playing atm)which I find v v interesting ..the only boring part is the battle part.. outdated. Was quiet disapointed with Final fantasy IV too .. also outdated game play ..I thought it would be better then Final fantasy III since it was rated so higly but they are almost the same type of game play :(

Even I would like to know find-out about any good rpgs incase I missed out on a good one (have played most)and cant w8 for the new Zelda
