didn't really know which forum to post this in...

Anyways, who here is a big fan of rhythm games?

how about you post your favourite ones! It doesn't matter what system it is on (Portable or console).

anyways, I can't get enough of rhythm games. Maybe it's because I like music but I'm too lazy to learn an instrument?

I have to say DDR is definately at the top of my rhythm game list, mostly due to the fact I've been playing it since the PSone release and it still challenges the crap out of me. all i have to say is damn Healing D Vision on Oni >.<.

next up I recently got into Taiko Drum Master while at Anime Evolution in British Columbia this summer. I'm having trouble getting a hold of any imported games, but I can at least play the engish release of the game on PS2. Anyways, it's totally great for helping you let all your anger out at the end of a really stressful and frustrating day.

the Oundan series is obviously a great set of rhythm games, that I'm sure most every DS owner has played at some point. The first game was honestly the first game I ever put on my flash card, and the only game I played until getting at least A on every song on the hardest difficulty.

GH is a given, as it has recently grown rediculously in popularity. I remember pre-ordering the very first game, and most people were like "WTF is that game supposed to be?". It wasn't until the release of the second game that it really got popular out this way . Anyway, the third game is pretty intense. I can't get past "Welcome to the Jungle" on Expert and I used to be able to 5 star most on expert in the other games.

the list goes on and on....there are an astonishing number of rhythm games out there ranging from the odd Space channel 5 and Parappa the Rapper to intense games like Amplitude and GuitarFreaks & DrumMania.

Anyways, I'd like to hear what others have to say about their favourite rhythm games. Let's Post!! :D

Overall i'd have to say the Pop'n Music series is prolly my fav, but like other Bemani games you can only get the full enjoyment out of it by playing with a Desktop arcade, djdao, or Ransai controller. Also i'd suggest checking out Daigasso Band Bros, this was the first game i imported for the DS.

It came with a set of Nintendo headphones and nice poster, a very good game that stills holds up today. It was the first game to use Japan's DS Download service, for downloading extra songs. There was also the Daigasso! Band Brothers Tsuika Kyoku Cartridge (GBA expansion pack) released that included 31 extra songs that could be loaded up if it was in the GBA slot while playing Daigasso  :yoshi:

Also the Rhythm Tengoku game by Intelligent Systems on the GBA, it's a must play for anyone into this genre. It received an Excellence Prize for Entertainment at the 2006 Japan Media Arts Festival. It's not a manic Rhythm game like others you might have mentioned, instead it's more of a mini game romp that focuses on timing. The Official Site is still up if fancy a look.

Pop'n Music look's like it is a really fun game to play, just a bit pricey to really get the full enjoyment out of it. One of these days I may attempt to try it out and buy a decent controller for it. I'm assuming you'd also have to import the games also. All in due time.

Anyways, I honestly did not know Daigasso Band Bros had any downloadable content at all. I guess I should go back and try out that then! I played the game with what was in it until I got tired of the same songs, playing on the hardest difficulty. Lucky though as it was one of the saves I actually still have backed up on my computer. Thanks for that bit of information! do you know what the expansion for the GBA is called by any chance?

and I have to agree with you in saying that Rhythm Tengoku is worth a play. I have tried pretty much every rhythm game I could get my hands on, minigame based or otherwise, and this was the best one I found that was all minigames. For some reason it kinda reminded me of a rhythmic Warioware game. Anyways, it's addicting in it's own way.

This topic is my attempt to at least partially "De-Lurk" as I've been a member of this site for over a year and have less than 40 posts to my name. Shame to those who do nothing but lurk their whole existence! Anyways, the only thing keeping me from throwing my GH controller through my TV is probably because the recoil may cause the demise of my computer as they are right next to each other.

Anyways, I'll probably be posting a lot in this topic >.<

Post Away!

The proper name is Daigasso! Band Brothers Tsuika Kyoku Cartridge (or Great Concert! Band Brothers Request Selection Cartridge in English).

Trashman dumped it ages ago, it didn't get numbered because it wasn't a retail cart.

XXXX_-_Daigasso_Band_Bros_Request_Selection_JPN_NDS-TRM

filename: trm-dbbr.zip

You know i cant link to it so good luck finding it.

You haven't really played DDR @ Home till you've either bought a metal pad or made one of your own:

You can't talk about rhythm action games without mentioning Samba De Amigo. I love that game, got a set of official maracas and everything. I really hope they do it justice with the Wii version of the game. I also love Parappa games and getting drunk and going on DDR games, passers by think it's hilarious.

I'm looking forward to the Samma De Amigo for the Wii as I really haven't had a chance to get the game. I'm too busy trying to get the money to get Panzer Dragoon Saga atm to buy much else, and I don't have a Dreamcast either  :'(

anyways, what rhythm games are currently taking up most of your time? I just started playing Ontamara and I got the expansion for DBB (Thanks Triforce for the name btw). other than that I decided to start playing Amplitude again, and I keep getting stuck "at all the small things"   .

I'm contimplating getting a new metal DDR mat as I've worn out my old one. It was 3 years old though and heavily used, and now is impossible to fix with many broken parts. Cheaper to buy a new, hammerproof one or something. I can then play DDR again! I may even get "SuperNOVA 2" as much as I prefer the songs on the older games such as DDRMAX.

the funny thing about life is that you never know what's coming next. I just put a bid up locally for a DC with all the fixin's so I may soon be able to go hunting for a copy of Samba De Amigo! Life is good ATM.
