Our friends at www.gateway-3ds.com are back with a brand-new update about the upcoming firmware 2.0, namely MultiROM support. Not just any support at that - it's with a GUI and it works directly from the level of firmware itself, as seen in the video. Yep - no additional application required, you're always one click away from switching the game - neato! Will this be enough to appease the bloodthirsty crowds furious over the recent GW bricking issues? Only time will tell, but it certainly looks exciting.
Here's what the team had to say in their official release notes:
Quote
Hello loyal Gateway 3DS fans! (you know who you are)
Today we will briefly take a break from our intense development cycles to present you with our latest progress on the MultiROM functionality for the Gateway 3DS 2.0 release. But first a few words from the team.
As you might have noticed, our milestones have been slipping a bit lately. The original release date for 2.0 was planned early january, but certain events have thrown a wrench into our schedule.
We are still investigating individual brick incidents reported by legitimate Gateway 3DS users. So far, many isolated brick incidents that were blamed on us have been debunked in one way or another and turned out to be associated with use of the clones modified versions of our official release files.
Now, without further ado; enjoy this quick teaser video of the upcoming Gateway 3DS ROM selection menu. As you might be able to tell we're doing our best to tightly integrate this with the existing system and make the task of switching to a different game a pleasant and fast experience for all Gateway users.

This video shows Smealum's homebrew efforts on the 3DS. This is a very promising vid, showing off his own redNAND and custom channels for homebrew. It won't be all that long before we can all enjoy homebrew on our 3DS!

This video is a glimpse at what I want for the up and coming 3DS homebrew scene, ie a way for people to make their own homebrew applications and install so that they’re directly accessible from home menu. This has a number of advantages over running code “on the bare metal” as some are already doing. For one thing, it means that homebrew code will be strictly limited to user mode code, the same way commercial games and applications are, which drastically lowers the likelihood of anyone’s (*cough*GW*cough*) code accidentally bricking your console. For another, it means that our code will be able to interface with every service provided by the 3DS’s OS; it’ll make stuff like FS, wifi and GPU access much easier. And of course, it just looks cool having your own channel in the menu, and being able to return to menu and switch between games instantly is a nice plus.

Although it's been a while since it's been released, I thought I'd make a post about it. Dementium II HD, the HD remastered version of the survival horror/first person shooter NDS game Dementium II got released December 17th on Steam. If you liked the original DS version, I strongly suggest you check out this remastered HD version. As where I found the DS version not scary at all because of the graphics, this version is pretty tense!
And the great thing is: it's only €14 ($19) on Steam!
